Hi everyone, it’s been a while. I finally got a Nintendo Switch 2!
With the looming price increase (actually, the price in my place already began increasing over time and incrementally when the news of price increase got announced last May 8, 2026) and games/JRPGs I am really looking forward will get released soon, it was inevitable that I had to get one soon.
Nintendo Switch 2 First Impression
As for first impression, this console is huge! I only have the original switch and not the oled variant (which is bigger), so when I compared them, Switch 2 is so big!
Regarding the joycon, the snap just feels so satisfying. Y’know the feeling of popping bubble wrap, that’s how I feel about it *laughs*, even when pressing the back button to unlock it feels great. With switch 1, you slide down the joycon, it feels nice especially when it clicks, but with switch 2 the snap is just on another level (also it didn’t feel fragile nor loose to me, unlike the assumptions I saw from the internet before NS2 got released).
The console itself has that premium feel to it, the texture, the weight, the button and controls, and the dock. I thought the Switch 1 already felt premium, until I held this.
The UI still feels the same as switch 1. That’s the one thing that made me feel “if this is really next-gen” (ds -> 3ds, wii -> wiiu, and playstation consoles have different vibe to their next gen). Oh yes, there’s the sound effect which is different.. I actually love it *laughs* and more settings (I especially like the 90% battery thing since I play about 95% of the time on dock). By the way, when playing handheld mode, the screen feels big enough that you won’t feel like missing out on any details.
Switch 2 Games I am Looking Forward to Play
If you already know me, you know one of the game I am talking about will be Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave ♥!
I am very excited for this game! As much as I was excited with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. There is a lot of stuff I am looking forward to, and I am a big fan of the current theme, like having the gladiator-esque and the rome/greek vibe (probably some will notice that some of my fanart, have these theme).
Next is, we had a Nintendo Direct, and Xenoblade Genesis got announced! It blew me away (like in smithereens *laughs*). This is another game I am looking forward to play on Nintendo Switch 2.
I’ve always wanted to see Monolith Soft do something Medieval Fantasy (even if not purely, like an 80-20 ratio of medieval fantasy and sci-fi). They made Baten Kaitos which I also really like. I would like to talk about this in more details in another post, about expectations and what would I like to see (such as game mechanics from previous xenoblade games).
While not exclusive to the switch 2 platform, another game I am looking forward to is Brigandine: Abyss!
When it got announced, I was speechless, Brigandine from Playstation 1 is one of my all-time favorite games. When a new entry to Brigandine, Legend of Runeseria got announced in 2020, that itself was already a huge miracle, more even so when a 3rd one which is Brigandine: Abyss got announced! The best way I can describe the feeling is if we were to compare it to other game getting a new entry, I guess it’s like Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, Radiant Historia, or the Last Story miraculously getting a 2nd game, and then by some miracle a 3rd one (surreal isn’t it? And fortunately, it’s not a mobile gacha which honestly could kill a series *cough* something like brea–).
I’ve actually been planning to talk about Brigandine series, about what I love it, introduce, and why the Brigandine series may or not may be for you. I’ll do that in another post.
Switch 2 Backward Compatibility
Now, this is the switch 2 feature I am also very excited to talk about. I’m a huge fan of backward compatibility, so Switch 2 being one is a big thing for me.
What really caught me off guard is (which I only found not too long ago) was there are improvements when running Switch 1 games on Switch 2! I honestly did not expect that there would be perks, the last time I heard about backward compatibility is that some games are broken and require updates for switch 2 to work normally.
This has become one of my favorite subject to look into, which switch 1 games works better on switch 2. In the past, I was a stable performance enjoyer *laughs* (like I would prefer a 30 fps stable game over variable fps, bouncing between 30 to 60), but with Switch 2, that honestly changed. I now wished more games had uncapped frame rate or at least set up to 60 fps! Felt like I got punished *laughs*.
Here are some games that really benefited from Switch 2’s power (I know that there are upgrade and switch 2 versions, but these ones are unpatched):

I did try Trials of Mana, and it looks so good and smooth, makes me want to do another play through *laughs*. There are more games that benefits from it like Fire Emblem: Three hopes and other warrior games.
Besides improvement, some games did not run smoothly on switch 1, so playing them on switch 2 makes them more stable and smoother like Rune Factory 5.
While the NS2 games I am looking forward to have yet to be released, I am actually more excited to play NS1 games on it and see how it runs and looks on NS2. As for what I’m going to do with my Switch 1 console, I’ll talk about it in more detail some other time, but it will stay with me.
Closing Remarks
I have this certain coincidental tradition with Nintendo consoles. When I got the 3DS, the first I got and played was Fire Emblem Awakening, and when I got my switch 1, it was with FE: Three Houses. And now, it’ll be FE: Fortune’s Weave turn. I think it’s fun coincidence *laughs*.
That would be all for now. I’ve been wanting to do casual posts like these for a long time, it was fun sharing these stuff. Are you okay with me posting casual stuff like this?
Thank you again for your time and reading this. I hope you a great day/evening.
I would like to end this post with a question, what made you interested in getting a Nintendo Switch 2 console, and what was your NS2 impression?
